Our school
Our onsite school opened in February 2007 in response to the increase in medium and long-term stays at the House.
The Ronald McDonald House School provides teaching for all primary and intermediate aged siblings and also outpatients staying at the House. It runs Monday through Friday and the school day is divided into morning sessions (10:00am to 12 noon) and afternoon sessions (1:30pm to 2:45pm). A creative activities centre and computer learning centre are located within the House and serve as a two-room schoolhouse. All lessons aim to provide access to the basic curriculum (numeracy and literacy) in the mornings and more innovative learning experiences in the afternoons including art making, field trips or extra curricular activities such as Auckland ‘discovery days’, giving the children a uniquely Auckland experience to take with them when eventually return home.
Marion Nevin is our teacher and she brings to the school a background in teaching sick and disabled children in unorthodox situations. Her energy, enthusiasm and experience are very valuable assets to our school.
The school year begins in February and follows the standard New Zealand school term dates. It is an expectation of the family that any sibling of school age that is staying in the House will need to attend the school.
If you are bringing any primary or intermediate age siblings with you please remember to register them into the House school prior to your arrival. You can do this by contacting our School Liaison Officer, Lorraine Bunbury on +64 9 303 1365, email , or you may download our school pre-enrolment form.
