The first anniversary of Grafton Mews

In March 2011, we opened the doors to our new House: Ronald McDonald House Auckland Grafton Mews. The 18 additional rooms that the new facility provided have greatly helped us to stay on top of the growing demand for our service and since opening, we’ve welcomed more than 800 incredible families through the doors. The Morgan-Kora family highlight what Grafton Mews meant to them when they stayed with us earlier this year:

Grafton Mews has helped us as a family when, with less than 24 hours notice, our son was transferred to Starship. So many things were going through our mind; the strain on our son traveling, the financial strain of being able to all travel and stay as a family and support each other. Upon arriving we were overwhelmed with what was being offered to us. All was so appreciated and accepted with love. Having RMHA available to families like ours is just such a blessing and has made this journey so much easier. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

To mark this special one year we held a party in the shared leisure of Grafton, where families could put aside their worries for a while and have some fun. The sun shined for us so we made the most of it and had a barbeque. Our younger residents enjoyed the piñata and the gorgeous birthday cake which was donated by Microsoft.

We are halfway there with the second wing of Grafton is yet to be developed and has the potential to provide a further, and much needed, 20 rooms for our families and this will be our focus for 2012; raising the funds to ensure we can commence building as soon as possible.
