Our new House — Grafton Mews

Sarah and Lochie Anderson“The new house has been fantastic for Lochie and I. If it wasn’t here and we had to stay in a motel we would be isolated and so alone.”

In March 2010, at the height of the global financial crisis, an opportunity arose to purchase a building just a short way from Auckland’s Starship Hospital. Market conditions at the time were perfect for this purchase so the organisation acted strategically.

We have purchased the building, renovations to the first wing are complete and now half of the Grafton Mews facility is open. So we have half a house and are halfway to providing a place to call home for every family of a child facing a medical crisis at Auckland’s Starship Hospital — halfway to providing the love and support so desperately needed, today and in years to come.

The newly opened first wing of the Grafton Mews facility provides 16 rooms and two self contained units for transplant families. Once developed, the second wing of the facility will provide an additional 20 rooms for families in need.

Our target is continually being reviewed as we analyse the trends in demand for our services and explore options to utilise space. We currently estimate that the total cost of this project will be $12.5 dollars for which we have already raised a significant proportion.

Now, more than ever, families in crisis need a place to stay and people to care. We urgently need to complete this project — once finished, Grafton Mews will provide a facility that will not only meet today’s urgent accommodation needs but will also enable us to be prepared for tomorrow’s.
